University Of Nevada Football Player Brandon Wimberly Shot
University of Nevada Wolf Pack junior receiver Brandon Wimberly was shot in the abdomen early Saturday morning isn’t expected to play football again. Wolf Pack coach Chris Ault said that Wimberly underwent surgery to repair damage to his intestines and colon and that the gunshot wound nearly proved fatal. Wimberly, the WAC’s Freshman of the Year in 2009, ranked second on the team in catches last season with 41.
The shooting happened around 2:30 a.m. near a minor league baseball stadium in Reno. Police said that several Wolf Pack players fought another group of men before the other group got into a car. Wimberly approached the car and someone inside shot him.
Ault said in a statement the other players with Wimberly would cooperate with any police investigation into the case. Police have made no arrests in the shooting. There is a $1,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and identification of the shooter.
