Terrell Owens Cut From Arena Football Team
The Allen Wranglers have cut Terrell Owens, the former NFL wide receiver. Along with his roster spot on the Wranglers, Owens also loses his ownership stake in the IFL franchise.
“It’s disappointing and unfortunate, “but (he) could no longer be tolerated by the Wrangler organization,” Wranglers majority owner Jon Frankel said.
There were many reasons behind Frankel’s decision to dismiss Owens. The chief one was the fact Owens had refused to play in two key upcoming road games for the Wranglers. It didn’t help that Owens also was a no-show for a charity event at a local children’s hospital.
Frankel deemed Owens actions as a violation of his contract, leading to its termination and the receiver’s subsequent release.
The Texas-based club brought in the 37-year-old wideout in an attempt to draw some local fans familiar to Owens, who played for the nearby Dallas Cowboys from 2006-2008. Owens had to pick the Wranglers after he couldn’t find a sixth NFL team in 2011.
