Temple Player Charged With Rape, Sends Victim Text Asking If Going To Press Charges

Temple linebacker Praise Martin-Oguike is facing rape and other charges for allegedly attacking a woman on campus.

The alleged encounter occurred in Martin-Oguike’s dorm room on May 26. His attorney says the allegations are baseless.

According to the Philadelphia Daily News, a fellow student visited Martin-Oguike, 18, in his room. The two watched television before the sophomore forcibly had sex with the woman, according to an affidavit. The following day, the women went to school police and reported the incident.

She told police Martin-Oguike texted her several messages after the incident, including asking: “Are you going to press charges?”

Temple coach Steve Addazio said Tuesday the sophomore has been suspended from the team pending the outcome of the charges.

Martin-Oguike, of Sewaren, N.J., appeared in seven games last season but has been removed from the current roster. He was arraigned May 31 and released on bail.

Defense attorney James Funt says Martin-Oguike is a “good young man” whose only mistake was rejecting the woman’s demands for a permanent relationship.
