WTF: JaVale McGee

Don't Try The Fruit Smoothies, They'll Leave You Leaking

Washington Wizards center JaVale McGee posted this picture of himself on Twitter last night of him riding through McDonald’s drive-thru on his Segway. One way or another McGee will find a way to get to McDonald’s to order up a number 10.

That fake processed chicken is so delicious, don’t hate.

Washington Wizards New Owner Smartens Up & Takes Banners Down

New Jersey Nets Are Not Impressed

New Washington Wizards owner Ted Leonsis has decided to take down banners at the Verizon Center. They however are not the Washington Wizards/Bullets either, so the 1978 NBA Championship banner isn’t going anywhere. Nope, the Washington Mystics are the chosen ones.

The Mystics have in years past raised banners honoring their attendance but Leonsis has decided that banners with real significance should be the only ones on display in the rafters and ordered them taken down.

Leonsis told arena officials that the only banners that should be displayed revolve around winning a division or conference or league championship.

Now if he could just make the Mystics disappear

Gilbert Arenas Is Back Home

What Does The Future Say?

Gilbert Arenas arrived home from a halfway house this morning, having completed one part of his punishment for bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room. Arenas drove up to his house in the Virginia suburbs of Washington at about 8:30 a.m.

He tried several times to punch the combination on the keypad to enter his gated driveway. After several failed attempts, he got out of his car and yelled toward the house for help. A woman inside the house yelled out the code. Arenas punched it in and drove into his driveway.

Arenas was asked several times for comment about his stay at the halfway house. Each time he shrugged and indicated he had nothing to say.

Arenas pleaded guilty to felony gun possession in the District of Columbia in January and was sentenced in March to a month in the halfway house. His sentence also includes two years of probation, a $5,000 fine and 400 hours of community service that can’t be performed at basketball clinics.

WTF: Gilbert Arenas

Gilbert "Goldfinger" Arenas

We’ve heard about it since the week it happened but know we have the photos of Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas gold gun. The constitution give American’s the right to bear arms and I have no problem with Arenas one or 500 guns but gold plated.

Gold is just gaudy Gilbert on second thought they do say gold is for the honeys.

Quiznos Toasty Topic: Prosecutors Seek Jail For Gilbert Arenas

Prosecutors Seek Jail For Gilbert Arenas

Every Wednesday Sports Grind Entertainment presents you with the Quiznos Toasty Topic. Today the toasty topic to be discussed is the announcement that Washington DC prosecutors are seeking jail time for Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas as they portray him as thuggish ruggish bone intimidator who tried to pressure his teammate into a cover-up. The Washington DC prosecutors are looking for a three-month jail sentence with three years probation and the NBA star perform 300 hours of community service for the weapons charge.

Arenas lawyer says his client is a peaceful man who played a misguided prank and has already been severely punished for bringing guns into the Wizards locker room. He says the more fitting punishment is probation and community service. Both sides staked out their positions Tuesday in court filings, ahead of Friday’s sentencing in D.C.

Arenas pleaded guilty Jan. 15 to one felony count of violating the District of Columbia’s strict gun laws, a charge stemming from a locker room confrontation that followed a card game dispute between Arenas and teammate Javaris Crittenton during a Dec. 19 flight to Washington. Authorities say Arenas threatened to shoot Crittenton in the face and blow up his car. Two days later, Arenas brought four guns to the locker room and put them in a chair by Crittenton’s locker with a sign saying, “Pick 1.” Crittenton then retrieved his own gun and showed it to Arenas.

“In the confined quarters of an airplane, a younger, junior player disrespected the defendant in front of the entire team,” Assistant U.S. Attorney Christopher Kavanaugh wrote. “On a team where the defendant is the highest-paid player, was the face of the franchise and is known for particularly outrageous conduct, the defendant believed he had no choice but to respond.”

Kavanaugh noted that Arenas lied repeatedly about why the guns were in the locker room. Arenas first claimed he brought them to work because he wanted to get them out of the house and away from his three young children. Then said that Crittenton wasn’t even in the locker room when the guns were displayed and asked an unnamed teammate to forward a text message to Crittenton, instructing Crittenton about what he should tell NBA officials.

“Ur new story. U were n the training rm when u got out there were 3 guns on ur chair with a note. That said pick one. Send that to javaris ill take all the Blame,” Arenas wrote, according to prosecutors. “Ill come up with the story. But that all he needs to say. If we hav to talk to the nba office.”

Prosecutors also cited Arenas prior conviction for carrying a concealed weapon in California in 2003 and his joking antics in the wake of the incident. They said any claim by Arenas that he was ignorant of D.C. gun laws is false, citing a November 2009 team meeting on the subject.

Arenas lawyers have noted that he has lost more than $7 million in salary from the NBA, $10 million from his sponsorship deal with adidas and $200,000 with Spalding.

No More Agent Zero, Gilbert Arenas Switches Number

Put A Bullet In Agent Zero

Goodbye, “Agent Zero.” Gilbert Arenas is switching his uniform number.

The suspended guard submitted paperwork to go from No. 0 to No. 6, and the NBA approved the change, league spokesman Tim Frank confirmed.

Arenas has worn zero since college, saying he picked that number because that’s how many minutes people expected him to play at Arizona.

Arenas said he chose the number 6 because it’s the same day that he was born and given a season-ending suspension by the NBA for bringing guns to the locker room.

Reggie Evans Named NBA’s Dirtiest Player

Why Your Hand Down There The Ball Is By His Face

In a recent poll conducted by Sports Illustrated they asked 173 NBA players who they thought was the dirtiest player in the league was. According to the players it was Reggie Evans. Los Angeles Clippers Chris Kaman and Philadelphia 76ers Samuel Dalembert could not agree more. Here’s the rest of the list:

  1. Reggie Evans, Toronto Raptors (21%)
  2. Ron Artest, Los Angeles Lakers (13%)
  3. Andres Nocioni, Sacramento Kings (6%)
  4. Anderson Varejao, Cleveland Cavaliers (5%)
  5. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (4%)

Interesting though that Washington Wizards Fabricio Oberto who leads the league in fouls per 48 minutes, averaging 9.1, did not receive a single vote.

Who do you think is the NBA’s dirtiest player?

Caron Butler Says Goodbye To The District Of Columbia

Class Act

The District of Columbia’s tears will be a little more heavier tonight knowing that a man who represented their city to the world now calls Dallas home.

When you get traded, you don’t get time to say goodbye. More important, you don’t get the opportunity to say, “Thank you.”

Thank you, to some of the best fans in the world. Representing you and representing this city has been an honor I will always cherish.

During my 4 1/2 years as a Wizard, I learned many valuable lessons, especially how to give back to the community. The most rewarding part of my time in Washington was meeting the incredible people of this city, and I will miss you all. Thank you to the countless individuals who helped me with the annual Coats for Kids, the Bike Brigade and my basketball camp. The memories are many and will never be replaced.

When I came to Washington, I dreamed of winning a championship. I thought I would play the rest of my career in this city, retire a Wizard and one day see my number hanging from the rafters at Verizon Center. I have learned that in basketball, as in life, nothing is guaranteed.

Thank you for the memories. My family and I will treasure them forever. Washington will always hold a special place in my heart.

Caron Butler, Dallas

Josh Howard Takes DNP Due To Hangover

Smooth

Josh Howard’s lack of production and past infractions may have set things in motion long ago, but the inciting moment that may have led to Howard’s ticket out of Dallas seems to be a DNP-due to hangover.

Several Maverick sources said Howard had a long night of partying on January 19, the night after the Mavericks had won in Boston and less than 24 hours before playing the Washington Wizards. The team officially said he missed the game against Washington on Jan. 20 with a stomach illness. But  team officials said that it was a self-inflicted game off.

It certainly be the first time that Howard partying has drawn criticism as his notorious 2008 birthday party that he threw during a playoff series in which the Mavs were getting creamed by the New Orleans Hornets drew the fire from then-coach Avery Johnson and Mavs’ management. Oh, and then there the YouTube video about the national anthem. And the drag racing. And the admission of marijuana use.

Juan Dixon Test Positive For Steriods In Europe

"Damn homie, in high school you was the man, homie"

Another athlete has been suspended indefinitely from play but this time the player isn’t affiliated with baseball. It’s former Maryland star Juan Dixon, who is the program’s all-time points leader, tested positive for the steroid nandrolone and was indefinitely suspended by the International Basketball Federation. Dixon is currently playing in Europe for the Spanish team Unicaja. He took the drug test in November.

He was drafted by the Washington Wizards, then played with the Toronto Raptors, Portland Trail Blazers, Detroit Pistons and was cut by the Atlanta Hawks last October before resorting to earning a paycheck overseas.

Dallas Mavericks & Washington Wizards Complete 7 Player Trade

Moving Day

The Washington Wizards completed a blockbuster seven player deal with the Dallas Mavericks. The Wizards sent Caron Butler, Bredan Haywood, DeShawn Stevenson and cash considerations to Dallas for Josh Howard, Drew Gooden, Quinton Ross and James Singleton.

For Dallas this trade gives them hope in of knocking off the Los Angeles Lakers in the playoffs. this spring.Butler is a significant upgrade over Howard, who had fallen out of favor with Dallas and struggled this season.  Butler’s salary for next season of $10.6 million is pretty reasonable given what he brings to the table. Haywood also gives the Mavs a defensive center who can give Dallas some toughness inside now that Erick Dampier is dealing with some soreness in his knee. Haywood has long been criticized for inconsistent play but is still a starting-quality center that teamed up with Jason Kidd, I think you’ll see Haywood surprise a lot of people. Stevenson helps the Mavericks in depth department.

On the flip side, Wizards’ GM Ernie Grunfeld continues to perplex me. When he was running the Bucks, he was the mastermind behind the disastrous Ray Allen-for-Gary Payton swap, and in the last two years, he signed Gilbert Arenas to an outlandish contract (for a guy coming off of knee surgery) and now, in an effort to “rebuild,” he’s trading away a very good 29-year-old small forward for a decent 29-year-old small forward. For Washington, this is a clear cost-cutting move that will save the Wizards about $13.5 million in salary next season it could be more but I don’t see Ross declining his player option on $1.1 million.

The players physicals were waived, meaning every player should be in their new uniforms right after the All-Star break.

Wizards: Losers/Mavericks: Winners

Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas Writes Online Apology

Making Amends

Suspended Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas wrote a piece for The Washington Post that he would try to rebuild his relationship with D.C. youth following his guilty plea on a felony gun charge.

Arenas wrote in The Post that he realized he had let down the youth in the D.C. area and would work hard to regain the trust he had built with them.

“I understand the importance of teaching nonviolence to kids in today’s world,” Arenas wrote.

“Guns and violence are serious problems, not joking matters — a lesson that’s been brought home to me over the past few weeks. I thought about this when I pleaded guilty as charged in court and when I accepted my NBA suspension without challenge. That message of nonviolence will be front and center as I try to rebuild my relationship with young people in the D.C. area. I know that won’t happen overnight, and that it will happen only if I show through my actions that I am truly sorry and have learned from my mistakes. If I do that, then hopefully youngsters will learn from the serious mistakes I made with guns and not make any of their own.”

Arenas said he had let down his teammates with the Wizards as well as Irene Pollin, the widow of longtime team owner Abe Pollin. Pollin, who changed the team’s name from Bullets in 1997 because of D.C.’s violence. After Pollin’s death, Arenas said he called his father on the West Coast because Pollin was the father away from California.

“I said that I lost sight of the lesson I learned from Abe Pollin about how the responsibility to be a good role model comes along with the opportunity he gave me,” Arenas wrote.

WTF: Nike

Perfect Timing

Yes Kobe Bryant is the front man in the ad for Nike but they all the creative control. So Nike is the “Prepare for Combat” and the following quote at the bottom of the poster coming at the right?

“I’ll do whatever it takes to win games. I don’t leave anything in the chamber.”

Especially in the wake of Bryant’s former teammate Washington Wizard Javaris Crittenton, one of the two Wizards players suspended, pleading guilty to a gun charge after he brandished a loaded gun and chambered a bullet during a locker room confrontation with Gilbert Arenas.

Washington Wizards Javaris Crittenton Finally Charged With Weapons Violations

You Got, Got

The Washington DC district attorney hadn’t forgotten they was another Washington Wizard involved in the whole Gilbert Arenas locker room gun showdown.

That’s because an attorney for guard Javaris Crittenton says the player will plead guilty to a misdemeanor gun charge just 10 days after teammate Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony gun charge.

Crittenton was charged with two misdemeanors, possession of an unregistered firearm and attempted carrying a pistol without a license.

Crittenton’s lawyer, Peter H. White, says prosecutors plan to drop the second charge if Crittenton pleads guilty.

He says Crittenton brought a legally owned, handgun to Washington “only because he legitimately feared for his life.”

He says the player accepts responsibility for his conduct.

Arenas pleaded guilty on January 15 to a felony gun charge connected to a locker-room argument that is believed to have involved Crittenton.

A Whites-Only Basketball League In Gerogia

The Days Of Fundemental Basketball & Scores Of 4 To 2

A whites-only basketball league aims to launch in twelve cities this summer, according to a report in the Augusta Chronicle. The All-American Basketball Alliance would also ban players born outside the United States.

The league’s commissioner, Don “Moose” Lewis, claims that he doesn’t “hate anyone of color. But people of white, American-born citizens are in the minority now.” Thus, he says, the All-American Basketball Alliance would be “a league for white players to play fundamental basketball, which they like.”

The report includes additional shocking quotes from the commissioner:

Lewis said he wants to emphasize fundamental basketball instead of “street-ball” played by “people of color.” … “Would you want to go to the game and worry about a player flipping you off or attacking you in the stands or grabbing their crotch?” he said. “That’s the culture today, and in a free country we should have the right to move ourselves in a better direction.”

He points to recent incidents in the NBA, including Gilbert Arenas indefinite suspension after bringing guns into the Washington Wizards locker room, as examples of fans dissatisfaction.

Excuse me while I lose my mind her “street ball played by people of color”? Who fuck does this guy think he’s fooling, especially when it’s coming from Augusta, Georgia.

What does this say to little Tommy?

WTF: Nike

Missed The Point

I apreciate Nike trying to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day but why are they the Pan-African flag colors? Martin Luther King Jr. was about bringing all races together not a solidarity state.

Martin Luther King was not a leading Pan-African thinker. King was focused on ending racism in America, not with creating African brotherhood worldwide. Nike essentially honored King for something he was not.

Washington Wizards and North Carolina graduate Brendan Haywood was asked how he felt about Nike honoring Martin Luther King with Pan-African shoes. He paused for a long while, almost as if he didn’t want to say something he regretted, and finally said “It was the idea [that counted].

Adidas Drops Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas

Behind Bars

Adidas has ended its endorsement contract with Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas.

An Adidas spokesman told celebrity gossip blog TMZ on Friday that the company has decided to “terminate its agreement with Arenas effective immediately.”

The move came hours after Arenas pleaded guilty to a felony charge of carrying a pistol without a license.

Adidas originally signed Arenas in ’03.

Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas Pleads Guilty To Felony

Behind Bars

Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas has officially entered a “guilty” plea in a Washington D.C. courtroom to his single felony count of carrying a pistol without a license.

Without a jury trial, Arenas is expected to be sentenced on March 26. Despite Gil being a repeat offender (he was convicted of a gun charge in 2003), the prosecution reportedly recommended a lower-end sentence; the minimum being six months in jail and the max being five years.

“He accepted full responsibility for his actions, acknowledged that those actions were wrong and against the law, and has apologized to all who have been affected by his conduct,” Gilbert’s lawyer, Ken Wainstein, said in a statement. “Mr. Arenas appreciates the professionalism of the authorities handling this matter.

Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas Charged With A Felony

Behind Bars

Washington Wizards guard Gilbert Arenas is charged with carrying a pistol without a license outside home or business which comes as a felony that brings a maximum of 5 years behind bars.

The NBA suspended Arenas indefinitely on January 6. At the time, NBA commissioner David “The Goon” Stern said Arenas “is not currently fit to take the court in an NBA game.”

The suspension followed reports that he and teammate Javaris Crittenton drew guns on each other in the Wizards locker room in which Crittenton gun was loaded and one in the chamber. For his part, Arenas has said the episode was a “misguided effort to play a joke.”

Arenas has drawn support from at least one teammate. Before a game last Sunday, DeShawn Stevenson took to the court with “Agent Zero” written on his shins, a reference to his embattled teammate.

Shaquille O’Neal Has Tiger Woods Size Women Problems

Fatal Attraction

Cleveland Cavaliers Shaquille O’Neal has enjoyed a lot of success on the court but off the court it’s a different story with his well documented breakup, makeup, breakup marriage to Shaunie O’Neal as well as his affairs with Laura Govan, the fiancee of Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas, Atlanta stripper LaTosha Lee and nude model Dominica Westling. Now his off the court relationship has hit center court once again with model Vanessa Lopez who has now hired Gloria Allred, the same woman representing several women linked to Tiger Woods including Rachel Uchitel,to represent her because she claims Shaq is harassing her.

Lopez has been connected with other NBA stars like Denver Nuggets Kenyon Martin, Orlando Magics J.J. Reddick, and O’Neal’s current teammate Delonte West, who had a brief relationship with Lopez in 2006 when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.

The alleged problems started when Shaq thought Lopez was seeing another guy, who had thought was pregnant with the basketball player’s child, which prompted O’Neal and his sister to allegedly begin to harass her. The lawsuit also claims that Shaq hacked into her voice mail and text messages.

In 2004, she says she met O’Neal again while out at a club and says that he approached her and offered to buy her drinks. When Lopez told him she knew he was married, O’Neal told her he had an open marriage and that his union with wife Shaunie was for public image only. Lopez and O’Neal then began an intimate five year affair

Allred went on to reveal that in September 2009 “Ms. Lopez was late with her period and thought that she might be pregnant. She communicated this to Mr. O’Neal who responded by stating that she needed to tell the baby’s father and then went on to state that there was no way that the baby could be his.”

“Mr. O’Neal knew that he and Ms. Lopez engaged in unprotected sex and that they had been together numerous times in the preceding months and that she had not been with anyone else during this period of time. She felt that his response was very disrespectful and she was deeply hurt and offended. Though he apologized to her for his reaction she told him that it was over and that she wanted him to leave her alone but told her that he wanted to always have her in his life.”

Allred claims this is when the harassment started and Tiger Woods is not impressed.
