Former Wake Forest student and pep band member Maggie Hurt appeared Thursday morning on NBC’s “Today” to discuss her allegations of a sexual battery in 2009 involving two members of the Demon Deacons basketball team, guards Gary Clark and Jeff Teague. Both Clark and Teague were found not guilty in a Wake Forest campus hearing. And after a Miami Police investigation, the district attorney declined to prosecute, citing a lack of physical evidence and lack of eyewitnesses, among other factors.

Hurt alleges that, during a trip to Miami with Wake Forest for the NCAA Tournament, she was invited to a party in a hotel room but wound up alone with Clark in a bathroom where she was forced to perform oral sex.

“They open the door, it’s completely dark and I’m physically shoved from behind into the room,” Hurt said Thursday. “I was scared. He had big hands and could palm a basketball, and it was on the back of my neck. I felt like if I didn’t do what he asked, he would hurt me.”

Lori Hurt, Maggie’s mother, added: “They knew from the minute my daughter walked into that police department that they were going to get this case and make it disappear.”

Hurt, whose story was told by NBC as part of a larger piece on colleges and universities turning a blind eye to sexual assaults, dropped out of Wake Forest. Teague now plays for the Atlanta Hawks and Clark just completed his senior season averaging 10.9 points and 2.2 rebounds.
