Every Thursday Sports Grind Entertainment will present you with the Mama Margie’s Major Meltdown. The recipient of this honor goes to Rory McIlroy winner of the Masters black crepe jacket. The 21-year-old McIlroy began Sunday’s final round with a 4-stroke lead by the end he shot an 8-over-par 80 to fall to a tie for 15th and a full 10 strokes behind eventual winner Charl Scwhartzel. McIlroy made the wrong kind of Masters history when he tied for the worst final round by a 54-hole leader since Ken Venturi did so in 1956.
Rory McIlroy endured one of the most painful lapses in Masters Tournament history on Sunday, when he shot an 80 in the final round, giving up a four-stroke lead to finish tied for 15th place. McIlroy had a stretch holes not even Greg Norman would want to watch however did end the meltdown moment with a handshake from former WWE executive and professional wrestler Shane McMahon at Augusta National.
McIlroy can always look back at this years Masters appearance and forget he tied Ken Venturi in 1956 as the worst final round by a 54-hole leader instead remembering that he shook hands with one time Hardcore Champion.
