San Antonio Spurs Sign Cedric Jackson To 10-Day Contract

Via Spurs Press Release

[Via Spurs Press Release]

The San Antonio Spurs today announced they have signed guard Cedric Jackson from the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract.  Jackson is the 22nd call-up of the 2009-10 D-League season.

Jackson, a 6-3 guard, had a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this year.  He appeared in five games with the Cavs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 12, scoring one point and handing out two assists in nine total minutes. In 30 games with the BayHawks, Jackson averaged 15.8 points, 7.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 32.7 minutes.  He posted season-highs of 34 points and 13 assists on Jan. 19 at Austin.

As a senior at Cleveland State in 2009, Jackson was named 2009 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Horizon League Second Team for the second consecutive season. In two seasons with the Vikings, he had career averages of 12.3 points on .405 shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.8 steals in 32.2 minutes per game.

Jackson will wear No. 11 for the Silver and Black and will be available for tonight’s game vs. New York.

Detroit Pistons Rodney Stuckey Collapses During Game

Scary

Detroit’s Pistons Rodney Stuckey was conscious and breathing on his own as he was taken to a hospital after collapsing on the Pistons bench during the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

The Pistons said Stuckey was taken to the Cleveland Clinic and his vital signs were stable, but was going for further testing and observation.

Stuckey was wheeled off the court on a stretcher during the third quarter after he collapsed into a trainer’s arms on the bench during the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Stuckey walked off the floor for a timeout showing no signs of illness. After a few moments in a chair, though, Stuckey slumped over.

Medical personnel rushed over to the Pistons’ bench with a stretcher. Play was halted for 12 minutes as the medical staff worked on Stuckey, placed an oxygen mask on his face and wheeled him into an ambulance.

ESPN’s Heather Cox reported that Stuckey had a seizure in her early reports.

Reggie Evans Named NBA’s Dirtiest Player

Why Your Hand Down There The Ball Is By His Face

In a recent poll conducted by Sports Illustrated they asked 173 NBA players who they thought was the dirtiest player in the league was. According to the players it was Reggie Evans. Los Angeles Clippers Chris Kaman and Philadelphia 76ers Samuel Dalembert could not agree more. Here’s the rest of the list:

  1. Reggie Evans, Toronto Raptors (21%)
  2. Ron Artest, Los Angeles Lakers (13%)
  3. Andres Nocioni, Sacramento Kings (6%)
  4. Anderson Varejao, Cleveland Cavaliers (5%)
  5. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (4%)

Interesting though that Washington Wizards Fabricio Oberto who leads the league in fouls per 48 minutes, averaging 9.1, did not receive a single vote.

Who do you think is the NBA’s dirtiest player?

LeBron James Files Paperwork For Number Change

Where's Bill Russell's Respect?

Cleveland Cavaliers superstar LeBron James is good to his word on changing his number out of respect for Michael Jordan. James has filed the paperwork on the same day the Cavaliers played the New York Knicks and ahead of Wednesday’s league deadline to switch numbers for next season to the No. 6. The number he sported as a member of the U.S. basketball team at the 2008 China and the day his first son was born.

Player do not directly benefit from merchandise sales, however. It goes into a league-wide pool that is distributed to teams and then players based on seniority.

Last fall, James said he wanted to surrender No. 23 out of respect to his hero, the number Jordan wore for nearly his entire Chicago Bulls career excluding the brief period he donned the No. 45.

But as James is changing his name out of respect for Jordan believing the number should be retired across the league I ask what about showing respect to the NBA’s greatest champion and Boston Celtics legend Bill Russell. This is the touchy subject you get into when you start to proclaim one athlete better than another from different eras and stating Jordan’s number should be league wide retired.

Russell donned the No. 6 through 11 championships in 13 years with the Celtics and on his way to lead him right to the Basketball Hall of Fame after being a 12 time All-Star and a 5 time NBA MVP. Let’s not forget our history.

The number change won’t make much a  difference if James lands in a new city this off season.

WTF: Anderson Varejao

Ridiculous

Snuggies have got to be the stupidest invention ever. Then topping it off you have Anderson Varejao aka Sideshow Bob all porn star sprawled out on some peather couch trying to real you in and waste your hard earn money on a Cleveland Cavaliers Snuggie.

The Cavaliers will try to set a Guinness World Record for the most dumbasses to wear a Snuggie in a single gathering March 5 at home against the Detroit Pistons by giving every fan that attends one. Disgusting.

Antawn Jamison & Sebastian Telfair Traded For Zydrunas Ilgauskas & Al Thornton

Moving Day

The Cleveland Cavaliers acquired Antawn Jamison and guard Sebastian Telfair in part of a three team trade that sent center Zydrunas Ilgauskas, a 2010 first-round draft pick and the rights to Emir Preldzic, who was selected in the second round of last year’s draft by Cleveland to the Washington Wizards. The Wizards also received forward Al Thornton from Los Angeles Clippers who in turn received Drew Gooden to the Los Angeles.

The Cavaliers had long coveted an athletic power forward who could play on the perimeter after they were eliminated by the Orlando Magic in last year’s Eastern Conference finals. Jamison, who had been with the Wizards since 2004, was an All-Star in both 2005 and 2008, and averaged 20.5 points in 41 games. He missed the first nine games of this season with a sprained right shoulder. Jamison is still owed $28 million over the next two seasons.

Telfair, who’s 24, will be playing for his fourth team. The former first-round pick has averaged 7.9 points in his career.

Ilgauskas, who is 34, has played his entire 12-year NBA career with the Cavaliers. He was supplanted as the starter center by Shaquille O’Neal this season. He’s averaging 7.5 points and 5.3 rebounds this season. His career averages are 13.9 points and 7.7 rebounds.

Ilgauskas’ agent, Herb Rudoy, told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he would work quickly to get a buyout from Washington. That would free up Ilgauskas to sign with another team including re-signing with the Cavaliers, although he’d have to wait 30 days to return to Cleveland.

The 6-foot-7 Thornton has averaged 13.7 in his three-year career with the Clippers.

The Wizards acquired Gooden on Saturday in a multiplayer trade and was reportedly seeking a buyout but before that could happen he was sent to the Clippers.

Cavalries: Winners/ Wizards: Losers/ Clippers: Losers

Shaquille O’Neal To Curate Art Exhibit “Size DOES Matter”

Size Does Matter

Cleveland Cavaliers Shaquille O’Neal will curate an Manhatthan art exhibit at the FLAG Art Foundation entitled “Size DOES Matter” and will be on view from February 19, 2010 – May 27, 2010. The included works of art are from international artists exploring the myriad ways that scale affects the perception of contemporary art.

This exhibition will include a variety of mediums that play with scale as a key component in the composition of the artwork. Every work in the show was selected by Shaq himself or is being newly made at his request.

It will feature 66 works selected by Shaq. They range from Robert Therrien’s colossal sculpture of a table and six chairs to Ron Mueck’s “Untitled (Big Man),” a nearly 7-foot-tall sculpture of a naked, bald man curled up awkwardly, a piece Shaq was drawn to.

O’Neal has long been an art admirer.

Are The Cleveland Cavaliers Cheap Or Concerned For Your Health?

I'm So Thirsty

The Cleveland Cavaliers have taken an unusual sand first step in Quicken Loans Arena by removing all water fountains.

The team took out all the fountains, as they insist, to reduce the spread of bacteria and viruses, including the swine flu. Now, patrons who want water during the game have several options, they can wait in the concessions line and get a complimentary cup of water, pay $4 for a bottle of Aquafina or buy watered down beer and get wasted.

The team claims that they took their cue from the NBA and the International Association of Assembly Managers who recommended the move, which no other arena has yet to do. But the only problem is that both groups said they do not recommend removing water fountains.

“We have not made any recommendations for teams to turn off water fountains. That is strictly for teams to decide in their own market,” NBA spokesman Brian McIntyre said.

“There is nothing out there that suggests that water fountains are a particular concern,” said Matt Carroll, director of the Cleveland Department of Public Health.

Once informed of these opinions, Cavaliers spokesman Tad Carper tried to backtrack as best he could. “It’s a decision that we made, ultimately. We felt comfortable about doing that and that it was the right thing to do, and we still feel that way,” Carper said. “We wanted to provide the healthiest environment we could for our fans.”

The real reason the team did it is obvious though, as 17-year-old fan Matt Woods notes, “The reason is so you have to buy a $4 water,”

I’m siding with the power to make a dollar factor over the concerns of a fans well being.

George Gervin & Zydrunas Ilgauskas Become MVPuppets

Just as the moment came that I was professing I can’t stand these commercials anymore, Nike dips into my brain and delivers San Antonio Spurs legend George “The Iceman” Gervin and Cleveland Cavaliers Zydrunas Ilgauskas as MVPuppets in the barbershop.

“Wanna buy some DVDs.” You know you lol cause its so true.

Dwyane Wade Forever Linked To J.J. Hickson

I’m not gonna act like i followed Cleveland Cavaliers J.J. Hickson career now or when he was at North Carolina State, maybe the NBA guru Rudy J has but I for sure hadn’t, that was until he went national last night.

Hickson put Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade on the other side of a million dollar moment with this dunk and later took him to sportsgrindent block city court later in the third quarter.

I would definitely say that’s a helluva night for a fairly unknown and a night that Wade would like to forget but can’t since he is forever linked to Hickson in this million dollar moment.

BLOCK CITY: Your Victim-Dwyane Wade

J.J. Hickson, you have been charged with the crime of Representin.
And the verdict is Guilty.

BLOCK CITY: Your Victim-O.J. Mayo

LeBron James, you have been charged with the crime of Representin.

LeBron James Fined $25,000 For Launching Water Bottles Into Stands

Stu Jackson, Executive Vice President Basketball Operations, has slapped $25,00 fine on Cleveland Cavaliers forward LeBron James kicking a water bottle during the Minnesota Timberwolves game.

The incident occurred with 12.4 seconds remaining in the first quarter of Cleveland’s 109-95 victory over the Timberwolves at Quicken Loans Arena and from the above video you can understand why. James launched the cups right into the faces of unsuspecting fans.

NBA Announces Slam Dunk Partipants

Will It Be The Year Of The Little Man Again?

The NBA has announced it’s participants for its Slam Dunk contest on February 13, held during All-Star weekend this year at Jerry World’s. One notable absence is that of Cleveland Cavaliers LeBron James.

Those who will participate are Los Angeles Lakers guard Shannon Brown, New York Knicks guard Nate Robinson and Charlotte Bobcats forward Gerald Wallace. A fourth player will be determined through a “dunk-off” between Los Angeles Clippers guard Eric Gordon and Toronto Raptors forward DeMar DeRozan.

Robinson won the event last season and in 2006.

I care to see “TNT Legs” Brown win it but I’m going to put my money down on Wallace of Charlotte.

A Game Winner & It’s Not Kobe

Sundiata Gaines who was operating on his second 10 day contract and his fifth NBA game ever hit a last second three pointer to help the Utah Jazz in those ugly green uniforms defeat the Cleveland Cavaliers 97-96 last night.

I apologize right now to your hears for having to listen to Reggie Miller during the video, he blows.

Shaquille O’Neal Has Tiger Woods Size Women Problems

Fatal Attraction

Cleveland Cavaliers Shaquille O’Neal has enjoyed a lot of success on the court but off the court it’s a different story with his well documented breakup, makeup, breakup marriage to Shaunie O’Neal as well as his affairs with Laura Govan, the fiancee of Washington Wizards Gilbert Arenas, Atlanta stripper LaTosha Lee and nude model Dominica Westling. Now his off the court relationship has hit center court once again with model Vanessa Lopez who has now hired Gloria Allred, the same woman representing several women linked to Tiger Woods including Rachel Uchitel,to represent her because she claims Shaq is harassing her.

Lopez has been connected with other NBA stars like Denver Nuggets Kenyon Martin, Orlando Magics J.J. Reddick, and O’Neal’s current teammate Delonte West, who had a brief relationship with Lopez in 2006 when he was a member of the Boston Celtics.

The alleged problems started when Shaq thought Lopez was seeing another guy, who had thoughtwas pregnant with the basketball player’s child, which prompted O’Neal and his sister to allegedly begin to harass her. The lawsuit also claims that Shaq hacked into her voice mail and text messages.

In 2004, she says she met O’Neal again while out at a club and says that he approached her and offered to buy her drinks. When Lopez told him she knew he was married, O’Neal told her he had an open marriage and that his union with wife Shaunie was for public image only. Lopez and O’Neal then began an “intimate” five year affair

Allred went on to reveal that in September 2009 “Ms. Lopez was late with her period and thought that she might be pregnant. She communicated this to Mr. O’Neal who responded by stating that she needed to tell the baby’s father and then went on to state that there was no way that the baby could be his.”

“Mr. O’Neal knew that he and Ms. Lopez engaged in unprotected sex and that they had been together numerous times in the preceding months and that she had not been with anyone else during this period of time. She felt that his response was very disrespectful and she was deeply hurt and offended. Though he apologized to her for his reaction she told him that it was over and that she wanted him to leave her alone but told her that he wanted to always have her in his life.”

Allred claims this is when the harassment started.

Tiger Woods is not impressed.

D-Fish Forever Linked To Corey Brewer

Los Angeles Lakers Derek Fisher has had his fair share of memorable moments, er 0.4, but that’s not the case for Minnesota Timberwolves Corey Brewer. That’s all changed now for Brewer as he’s gotten his million dollar moment. How do you rank the three million dollar moments we already had in the 2009-2010 NBA season?

My order:

  1. Heats Dwyane Wade over Cavaliers Anderson Varejao
  2. Timberwolves over Lakers Derek Fisher
  3. Nuggets Carmelo Anthony over Jazz’s Paul Milsap

Matt Harpring Done For The Season & Possibly Career

BYE

BYE

Matt Harpring NBA career might be over, although it’s not official, one thing is and that’s his season is. Harping has fought through a lot of injuries throughout his career and lingering ankle and knee problems makes it extremely difficulty to physically perform at an NBA level.

The Georgia Tech product anticipates some day needing total knee replacement surgery as well as total ankle replacement. Not filing official retirement paperwork with the league allows him to collect the $6.5 million owed to him this season, and keeps open the possibility of his expiring contract getting used in a cost-saving trade.

Harpring who also played for Orlando, Cleveland and Philadelphia during his NBA career has been with the Jazz since signing as a free agent in the summer of 2002.

During seven seasons with Utah, he averaged 11.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 25.8 minutes in 474 games. His best statistical season was his first with the Jazz, when he started 69 of 78 games and scored 17.6 points per game on 51.1 percent shooting and pulled down 6.6 rebounds per game.
