[Via Spurs Press Release]

The San Antonio Spurs today announced they have signed guard Cedric Jackson from the Erie BayHawks of the NBA Development League to a 10-day contract.  Jackson is the 22nd call-up of the 2009-10 D-League season.

Jackson, a 6-3 guard, had a brief stint with the Cleveland Cavaliers earlier this year.  He appeared in five games with the Cavs from Jan. 23 to Feb. 12, scoring one point and handing out two assists in nine total minutes. In 30 games with the BayHawks, Jackson averaged 15.8 points, 7.4 assists and 5.1 rebounds in 32.7 minutes.  He posted season-highs of 34 points and 13 assists on Jan. 19 at Austin.

As a senior at Cleveland State in 2009, Jackson was named 2009 Horizon League Defensive Player of the Year and to the All-Horizon League Second Team for the second consecutive season. In two seasons with the Vikings, he had career averages of 12.3 points on .405 shooting, 5.3 rebounds, 5.2 assists and 2.8 steals in 32.2 minutes per game.

Jackson will wear No. 11 for the Silver and Black and will be available for tonight’s game vs. New York.

San Antonio Spurs Top 9 Worst Injuries Of All Time

1996-97: The Gift & The Curse

The latest injury to San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker, a broken the fourth metacarpal in his shooting hand, has cost him the rest of the regular season in a year that has already plagued him with plantar fasciitis, spraining both ankles, a strained hip flexor and food poisoning.

With the Spurs currently hanging onto the Western Conference seventh seed that already has many questioning their  chances in the playoffs and with this latest injury it will sure cast a greater shadow of doubt. While injuries are part of the game, what have been the 9 most damaging to the Spurs franchise? Why 9? In honor of Tony.

  • 9. Tony Parker 2009-10 season

Parker an NBA Finals MVP season looked shaky from the start when he suffered his first injury in a year that was filled with many. While playing overseas in the off-season for France against Hungary in Eurobasketball Parker turned his ankle. The bug was cast before the season even started but stayed with him until March 6 in Memphis, where his regular season came to end. Parker sat out numerous games in the year to a variety of injuries: plantar fasciitis, a strained hip flexor, spraining both ankles and food poisoning.

  • 8. James Silas 1976-76 season

Possibly one of the best Spurs of all-time that the NBA never had a chance to see at his peak. In the last season ABA before the merger Captain Late broke his ankle by landing on the foot of New Jersey Nets guard Brian Taylor in the ABA Finals. Recovered and ready for the Spurs first season in the NBA he suffered a cartilage tear in his knee restricting him to play in only 22 games for a Spurs team that was poised to contend. Silas played only 37 games the following season and was out of the league in four years.

  • 7. Manu Ginobili 2008-09 season

One of the greatest to put on a Spurs jersey was injured in the semi-finals of the Beijing Olympics. The injury carried through to the NBA season and limited him to appear only in 44 regular season games and missed the entire playoffs. San Antonio went in as the third seed with a 54–28 record but was eliminated by the Dallas Mavericks in the first round 4–1 the earliest exit since 2000.

  • 6. Johnny Dawkins 1988-89 season

Originally drafted with the 10th overall pick in the 1986 NBA Draft the former Duke all time leading scorer and Naismith College Player of the Year was suppose to be the point guard of the future for the Spurs and coach Larry Brown. Durring the 88-89 season he started to suffer from a nerve injury in his left leg and foot that allowed him to only see action in 32 games. The nerve injury in his leg would eventually force him to retire from the game.

  • 5. Terry Cummings 1992-93 season

In a season in which the Spurs improved on its record and advanced out of the first round they did so with limited minutes from one of their best scorers in Cummings. In the off-season Cummings tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his knee during a pickup game that forced him to miss the first 74 regular season games. Upon his return, he could no longer put up All-Star numbers he was accustomed and from then on was used in a role much like a reserve.

  • 4. Derek Anderson 2000-01 season

Anderson was a vital part in the Spurs plans of providing outside help to Tim Duncan and David Robinson averaging 15 points, 4 rebounds and 3 assists per game on the wing. The Spurs looked to be on their way to earining a second NBA championship in 3 years as the stars where lining up until Dallas Mavericks Juwan Howard drew a flagrant foul on Anderson. He separated his right shoulder when he drove for the basket and Howard swung his arm into Anderson’s side that caused him to land on his shoulder. He missed the rest of the Mavericks series and returned in the conference finals against the in limited minutes against the Los Angeles Lakers. Anderson and the Spurs where caught in a no win situation since it wasn’t adequate enough time for him to heal.

  • 3. Tim Duncan 1999-2000 season

In the Spurs first chance at trying to repeat as champions after winning their first NBA championship, they entered the playoffs without Duncan. He was averaging 23 points, 12 rebounds, and 2 blocks per game in a season that he had earned co-MVP with Shaquille O’Neal during the All-Star Game. However Duncan injured his meniscus shortly before the end of the regular season against the Sacramento Kings. The injury forced him to miss the playoffs and the Spurs saw them lose to the Phoenix Suns 3–1 in the first round. Without Duncan the Spurs relied on Malik Rose and Jerome Kersey to play alongside David Robinson but in the series they saw them go down as well with injuries.

  • 2. Johnny Moore 1986-87 season

An assist man, who lead the league in that category in 1981-82, a steal man, an all around NBA player in his first five season with the Spurs. Moore often found the open man and wasn’t afraid to make the extra pass as he is one of only three players in teams history to record 20 assists during a game was hospitalized December 26,1986 with the devastating disease, Desert Fever.  Doctors warned him that the disease could be fatal. Desert Fever luckily did not cost his life but ended up costing his basketball career as Moore lost three years of playing. He finally was able to return to the court to play in 53 games during 1989-90 season, which would be his last.

  • 1. David Robinson 1996-97 season

The year that will be known as the gift and curse for the Spurs franchise. That season saw Robinson hurt his back in the preseason, an injury that would plagued him the rest of his career, limited him to 6 games before breaking a bone in his foot. He wound up missing the entire season and the Spurs finished 20-62. The curse is it cost the Spurs their best player in franchise history and their season but the gift came in the form of ping pong balls and the drafting of Tim Duncan out of Wake Forest University with the number one overall pick.

Is there a Spurs injury you believe that was missed to be of greater significant than these 9? Feel free to leave your feedback.

Former Spur Returns To San Antonio To Face Sex Trafficking Case

ALLLLVVIIIIINNNNNNNNNNN!!

Former San Antonio Spurs Alvin Robertson waived his extradition rights and is returning to San Antonio to face charges of sexual assault of a child and sex trafficking.

He was arrested in Bentonville, Arkansas, a week after Texas authorities issued a warrant.

The 47-year-old former Spurs player is accused of being part of a sex trafficking ring that kidnapped a 14-year-old girl last April. The teen was allegedly forced to have sex with men around San Antonio and to dance at a Corpus Christi strip club.

Robertson’s attorney, Jimmy Parks, said Robertson wanted to return to San Antonio quickly to challenge the “scurrilous allegations.”

I guess he was probably wrongfully accused in theses situations as well:

  1. Robertson spent a month in jail during the 1990 NBA off-season for beating his then-wife.
  2. In August 1997 he pled no contest to four misdemeanor charges of abusing a former girlfriend and was sentenced to one year in prison.
  3. Robertson was arrested again in San Antonio in January 2007, on a variety of charges, several related to domestic violence.
  4. And you can forget his late night ecstasy binges out at Canyon Lake.
  5. In addition to possessing that kind of terrible credit report is that according to quite a number of my female stripper friends is that he is a bad stripper tipper. Nothing says your a bad guy more than being a bad stripper tipper. Come on!

[Via Spurs Press Release]

To honor Michael Finley’s request to be released from his contract, the San Antonio Spurs waived the veteran guard.  This move will allow Finley to sign with another team and be eligible to participate in the 2010 NBA Playoffs.

“Michael Finley was an outstanding professional during his time with the Spurs,” said Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich. “Both on and off the court he was great example for all to follow.”

The 6-7, 225-lb Finley appeared in 347 games over five seasons with San Antonio.  He averaged 9.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 1.4 assists in 25.3 minutes while shooting .417 (1,212-2,905) from the field, .382 (490-1,282) from three-point land and .849 (309-364) from the line.  Finley ranks fourth all-time for the Spurs in three-pointers made and attempted.   In 55 postseason games with San Antonio he averaged 9.4 points, 2.8 rebounds and 1.1 assists in 26.9 minutes per game.

Finley was originally signed by the Spurs on 9/2/05.  The two-time All-Star has also spent time with the Phoenix Suns and the Dallas Mavericks.  Over his 15-year NBA career, he has appeared in 1,082 games and has averaged 15.9 points, 4.4 rebounds and 3.0 assists in 34.8 minutes.  Finley has also appeared in 101 career postseason games and averaged 13.0, 3.9 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 33.3 minutes.

Richard Jefferson Forever Linked To Amare Stoudemire

The San Antonio Spurs got the last laugh with 113-110 victory over the Phoenix Suns but that’s not what this post is about. It’s about Amare Stoudemire getting his million dollar moment on and getting nasty on Richard Jefferson.

Somewhere Kesha NiCole Nichols is probably laughing.

San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker Signs With French Poker Site BetClic

Focus Man

San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker has inked a deal to represent upstart French poker site BetClic.

“A great adventure begins,” said Parker. “BetClic is a leading company with big ambitions and I am very happy to contribute to its development in the sport during the coming years.”

Parker and his wife Eva Longoria have taken part in several high-profile poker charity poker nights over the past few years and Parker has proven to be an avid player.

Created in 2005 by Nicolas Beraud, BetClic has risen to prominence in the European online gaming market over the past five years.

The company is hoping that having a high-profile star like Parker in an ambassador role will help it grow even further, particularly in France, where new legislation is expected to open up the French poker market.

Hey Calvin Casey is this what you would call focusing on driving towards a championship, since it’s coming inside of an NBA season?

Former San Antonio Spur Charged In Sex Ring Bust

ALLLLVVIIIIINNNNNNNNNNN!!

Former San Antonio Spurs Alvin Robertson has been charged with sexual assault of a child, trafficking an underage child for purposes of sex and forcing a sexual performance by a child.

The charges were contained in an arrest warrant Friday. Robertson has not been apprehended.

Authorities claim the 47-year-old former Spurs star was part of a ring that kidnapped a 14-year-old girl from San Antonio, forced her to have sex with clients and to dance at a Corpus Christi strip club last year.

The girl escaped her alleged captors, prompting an investigation. Seven people have been charged, including Robertson’s girlfriend, and he’s the only one who has not been arrested.

The seventh overall pick in the 1984 draft, Robertson averaged 14 points over 10 seasons and was voted to four All-Star Games.

The most alarming thing about the former Spur is his credit report, lets take a look:

Come on!

Former San Antonio Spurs Dwayne Schintzius Battling Leukemia

Mullet Hall Of Fame

Former NBA and Florida All-America center Dwayne Schintzius is undergoing treatment in Tampa as part of a months-long battle with leukemia. Schintzius, 41, had a bone marrow transplant about three weeks ago with marrow donated from his brother, Travis. But his condition apparently has not significantly improved.

Calls to the Schintzius family home in Brandon and his hospital room at Moffitt were unanswered.

The 7-foot-1 Schintzius played for the Gators from 1987-90, starting all 110 games he played in, averaging 14.8 points. In 1989, he was an Associated Press and Sporting News All-American and earned first-team All-SEC honors when he led the Gators in scoring (18) and rebounding (9.7). He is the only player in SEC history with more than 1,000 points, 800 rebounds, 250 assists and 250 blocks. He holds the UF record for blocks.

He was a member of Florida’s first SEC championship team (1988-89), and was a first-round draft choice of the San Antonio Spurs with the 24th overall pick. He played for six teams in his eight-year NBA career.

My favorite Schintizius story is when some Little Tommy asked him how the weather was up there and he spit on Little Tommy and told him it was raining.

Avery Johnson Gets His Hands On The Lombardi Trophy

Former San Antonio Spurs and Dallas Mavericks coach Avery Johnson, who was born and raised in New Orleans, managed to get his hands on the Vince Lombardi trophy as Saints head coach Sean Payton worked his way back to the locker room.

There’s no question about it Payton surely couldn’t have done it without the Little General.

San Antonio Spurs Tony Parker Sidelined With Ankle Sprain

More Time For This

[Via NBA.com]

San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker is expected to miss several games because of a mild left ankle sprain.

The Spurs said Thursday that the swelling in Parker’s ankle was minimal after being carried off the court Wednesday night in a win over Atlanta. No structural damage was found.

Parker won’t play Friday against Memphis and will also likely sit Sunday’s game against Denver. No timetable for his return has been set.

Parker has been troubled by the same foot all season. He missed four games earlier because of another ankle sprain and has been bothered by plantar fascitis.

The injuries have cost Parker the quickness he had last season, when he was an All-Star and led the Spurs in scoring.
