Lin earned Eastern Conference player of the week after his first week as an NBA starter, where he averaged 27.3 points and 8.3 assists. This lead to the Knicks going 4-0 during that span.
The undrafted Harvard graduate’s 109 points are the most by an NBA player in his first four starts since the 1976-77 season, and he became the first player in NBA history to tally at least 20 points and seven assists in each of his first four starts.
Lin becomes the first player to win Player of the Week awards in the NBA and NBA Development League, where he was honored while playing for the Reno Bighorns.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to tennis star Novak Djokovic for winning the Australian Open after beating Rafael Nadal. They battled for 5:53 in a memorable final at the Australian Open as Djokovic won in five sets, 5-7, 6-4, 6-2, 6-7, 7-5. The match began Sunday night and ended Monday morning at 1:37am in Melbourne. It was the longest final at a grand slam in history and the longest match ever at the Australian Open. Djokovic has now won five majors and has won three in a row. His three straight finals wins have come over Nadal.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for breaking the single season passing record held by NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino. The NFL record stood for nearly three decades as Brees threw for 307 yards and four touchdowns, the last a 9-yard strike to Darren Sproles that set the record with 2:51 to go. It was Brees final pass of the game and it gave him 5,087 yards passing with one game still to play. Marino finished with 5,084 yards for the Miami Dolphins in 1984. Brees four touchdown passes gave him 276 for his career, moving him ahead of Joe Montana and Vinny Testaverde for ninth all-time. He is the first quarterback in NFL history to pass for more than 5,000 yards twice as he had 5,069 in 2008.

Brees now has 3,689 yards, keeping him on pace to break Dan Marino’s single-season mark of 5,084 set in 1984. Brees became the first player ever with 4 passing touchdown, 350 passing yards and a rushing touchdown on Monday Night Football.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to Duke mens basketball head coach Mike Krzyzewski on becoming Division I’s winningest coach when the Blue Devils beat Michigan State 74-69. The win marked his number 903 of his career breaking the tie he shared with Bob Knight. Krzyzewski moved to the top of the list in front of a sellout crowd of 19,979 at Madison Square Garden. Krzyzewski moved to the top of the list in his 37th season, all but five at Duke. He also coached at West Point.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to Atlanta Braves closer Craig Kimbrel and Tampa Bay Rays starter Jeremy Hellickson who finished their first full seasons in the Major Leagues and were named the winners of this year’s Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Awards. Kimbrel, 23, won the National League’s award in a unanimous decision becoming the 10th NL player to win the award unanimously and the 17th overall. Hellickson joined teammate Evan Longoria to become the second player in Tampa Bay team history to be recognized as the American League’s top rookie.
Kimbrel, who set a Major League record for saves by a rookie with 46, was the favorite for the award. His saves total led the NL, and he finished with a 2.10 ERA and 127 strikeouts in 77 innings. Hellickson was a workhorse in a young Tampa Bay rotation that helped fuel the Rays to a late-season surge and into the playoffs via the AL Wild Card. He was 13-10 with a 2.95 ERA, ranking eighth in the league in ERA and striking out 117 hitters in 189 innings.
It is just the fourth time since each league began honoring a player in 1949 that two pitchers have earned the honor in the same season; the others being Joe Black and Harry Byrd in 1952, Butch Metzger and Pat Zachry (co-winners in the NL) and Mark Fidrych in 1976, and Fernando Valenzuela and Dave Righetti in 1981.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to the Miami Dolphins for getting their first win on the NFL season after beating the Kansas City Chiefs 31-3 on the road. The win makes the Dolphins 1-7 and drops the Chiefs to 4-4. Miami’s 28-point win is the third-largest margin of victory by a winless team that started the season 0-7 or worse in NFL history.
Matt Moore threw for 244 yards and three touchdowns, the first three-TD performance by a Miami quarterback since Chad Pennington in 2008. Reggie Bush ran for 92 yards and another score. Tight end Anthony Fasano hauled in two touchdown passes and wide reciever Brandon Marshall finished with 106 yards and another score. The three points allowed by the Dolphins were the fewest since they beat Buffalo Bills 16-3 on Dec. 7, 2008.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to the St. Louis Cardinals won a remarkable World Series they weren’t even supposed to reach, beating the Texas Rangers 6-2 in Game 7 with another key hit by hometown star David Freese and six gutty innings from Chris Carpenter. This allowed the Cardinals to capture their 11th World Series crown. Texas had not lost consecutive games since August but the two defeats at Busch Stadium cost manager Ron Washington and the Rangers a chance to win their first title in the franchise’s 51-year history. Instead, Texas became the first team to lose the Series two straight years since Atlanta Braves in 1991-92.
This marked the ninth straight time the home team had won Game 7 in the World Series. The Cardinals won their first championship since 2006, and gave Tony La Russa his third World Series title. They got there by beating Philadelphia Phillies in the first round of the NL playoffs, capped by Carpenter outdueling Roy Halladay 1-0 in the deciding Game 5, and then topping Milwaukee Brewers in the NL championship series.

Pujols delivered a history making series moment with the 3 home runs and six RBI’s leading to perhaps the greatest hitting performance in World Series as the St. Louis Cardinals romped past the Texas Rangers 16-7 on Saturday night. The three-time NL MVP matched Babe Ruth and Reggie Jackson for the most home runs in a game. Pujols added two singles and set a Series mark with 14 total bases.

This is the Rangers second ever appearance in the World Series, where as this is the Cardinals eighteenth.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to St. Louis Cardinals pitcher Chris Carpenter for the three-hitter he pitched against his old pal Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies in a deciding Game 5 of the NLDS. The Cardinals won 1-0 to become just the sixth pitcher over the last 30 seasons to throw a shutout in a deciding game and the first ever to do it in an NLDS Game 5. Carpenter walked none and struck out three in the matchup of Cy Young Award winners and a team that won a baseball best 102 games on the season.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to the Arizona Diamondbacks for winning the National League West Division after consecutive 90 loss season and back-to-back last place finishes. The Diamondbacks defeated the reigning World Series champions and division rivals the San Francisco Giants 3-1 to achieve their first NL West crown in four years. The Diamondbacks completed their worst-to-first turnaround by rallying to beat the Giants something that has been very common for them all season long.
Arizona started the season on a downturn, already 6.5 games out of first by the end of April then went through a magnificent May, closing the month 15-3 to take the NL West lead, and stayed near the top through July. The Diamondbacks seized control of the division at the end of August into September, going up by as much as 9.5 games before San Francisco came charging back with an eight-game winning streak now a year after going 65-97, Arizona is 91-66 and heading to the playoffs.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to New York Yankees relief pitcher Mariano Rivera for becoming Major League Baseball’s all-time career saves leader when he passed Trevor Hoffman. Rivera notched his 602 save of his career against the Minnesota Twins, helping his team preserve a 6-4 win. In typical Rivera fashion he sat down Trevor Plouffe, Michael Cuddyer and Chris Parmelee in order and even induced a customary broken bat. This season also marks the eighth time Rivera has achieved 40 saves in a season (1997, 1999, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2009 and 2011).
The Yankees are 633-41 all-time in games that Rivera has had a save chance, and he owns a remarkable 0.71 ERA in 139 2/3 innings of postseason work. No one has more postseason appearances (94),or more saves (42) than he has in the playoffs, the next reliever behind him is Brad Lidge with 18.

On this day back in 2004, Sports Grind Entertainment LLC went on air for the people on KLUP-AM 930 a non sports station in San Antonio. Behind the drive of Calvin Casey the show eventually found its way onto the airwaves of Ticket 760 a 24/7 sports radio station in 2007. Currently the show can be heard live weekdays 2-4pm CST. Throughout the seven years the show has remained 100 percent independently owned.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to Baylor University quarterback Robert Griffin III for his performance against the fourteen TCU Horned Frogs on Friday night. Griffin helped lead the Bears to a 50-48 victory over the Frogs by completing 21 of 27 passes for 359 yards, 5 touchdowns and 38 rushing. Griffin’s performance helped snap a college best 25 consecutive regular season game winning streak by TCU. It was the Bears first win over a ranked opponent since 2004 and it’s first over a top 15 team since 1991.

This week the recipient of this prestigious honor goes to Huntington Beach for winning the Little League World Series championship. Nick Pratto singled in the winning run with two outs and the bases loaded in the bottom of sixth inning, and Braydon Salzman pitched a complete-game three-hitter in a 2-1 victory Sunday over Hamamatsu City, Japan for the tournament title. A U.S. team has now won six out of the last seven World Series, with Japan’s win last year the lone exception. With runners on first and second, an error by Japan shortstop Gaishi Iguchi on what could have been an inning-ending double play loaded the bases for California. After a force play at the plate, Pratto smacked a solid liner to center off reliever Kazuto Takakura that brought pinch-runner Eric Anderson home with the winning run.
