Mavericks GONE Fishing!!!

Hit It Out Of The Park With This One Kenny

Never has a 7th seed beaten a number 2 in a best of seven game format in the first round until last night when the San Antonio Spurs sent the Dallas Mavericks fishing. Glad to see Emmitt Smith was able to get aboard.

And Walker told me I have AIDS.

Another Former NBA Player Files For Bankruptcy

Young Jezzy Tried Telling You

This hasn’t been the best of years for former NBA players when discussing their fiancees as we learned about the millions that have been lost from Antonie Walker and Derrick Coleman. Now former Detroit Pistons star Rick Mahorn has joined the group after filing for Chapter 7 bankruptcy.

Mahorn and his wife had to file after several failed investments, a drop in value of a $500,000 Rochester Hills home they bought and efforts to repay an IRS debt. Public records show that since 2006 the IRS has filed liens for almost $214,000 in delinquent taxes against Mahorn.

Mahorn played for the Washington Bullets,Philadelphia 76ers,New Jersey Nets, and was a member of the Pistons 1989 championship team from the Bad Boys era. He also coached the WNBA’s Detroit Shock before the team relocated to Tulsa, Okla. He is currently the Pistons radio announcer.

Former NBA Player Kendall Gill Returns To Boxing Ring

Who Wrestles In Tims?

Very few people outside of Illinois ties will find this news interesting but former Charlotte Hornets,Seattle SuperSonics,New Jersey Nets,Miami Heat,Minnesota Timberwolves,Chicago Bulls, and Milwaukee Bucks Kendall Gill will be making a return to the boxing ring tonight.

Gill, 41, who’s currently a Comcast Sportsnet basketball analyst will look to improve upon his prefect 3-0 record when he fights at the Chicago’s UIC Pavilion against Miles Kelly, 1-1-0 in a scheduled four round heavyweight bout.

He also has a video crew following him around as he trains for the fight for an upcoming show entitled “Inside the Ropes.” Gill has two knockouts in his boxing career but hasn’t fought since 2005.

Jose Canseco is impressed.

WTF: Coach Bennett Wyche

Your Better Than That Coach

First of all I didn’t know that some high schools have flag football teams until now and I can thank Stranahan coach Bennett Wyche for that.

It appears that Wyche, who was the coach of the year, was caught trying to pull the flag of a Western High safety Jessica Lucarelli as she headed for the end zone. But was Wyche cheating or reaching for something other than the flag?

A referee ruled unsportsmanlike conduct and credited the Wildcats with a touchdown. Western won 6-0 to advance to District 22 title game against Fort Lauderdale at South Plantation High.

Colorado Rockies Miguel Olivo Passes Kidney Stone During Game

Tough As A Rock

When one thinks of baseball-related injuries a kidney stone isn’t at the top of the list but that is exactly what Colorado Rockies catcher Miguel Olivo endured the other night.

With his team trailing 5-1 in the 8th inning, the Colorado backstop slipped into the team’s bathroom and passed a kidney stone. But as soon as he got the stone out of his system, Olivo quickly jumped into his catching gear and trotted back onto the field. Olivo described the passing of the kidney stone as just wanting “to die.”

“I can handle pain a little bit. Once it’s gone, I’m normal.”

The Rockies still lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3.

Danny Crawford Proud Of His Record In Dallas Mavericks Games

He Would Know

On ESPN Radio, Tim Donaghy, former NBA referee and author of ‘Personal Fouls’, talked about Danny Crawford and his record officiating the Mavericks and how referees see Mavericks owner Mark Cuban. Donaghy says Crawford’s record officiating games with the Mavericks is suspect and that Cuban still makes the Mavericks a target.

“I write about this a lot in the book ‘Personal Foul’ that Danny was pretty much proud of the fact that what his record was while refereeing Dallas Mavericks playoff games so I don’t know that it is a streak that he wants to keep alive or what the story is with that, but I just think that it is almost humanly impossible a referee could have that record with one team during playoff games alone.”

And if officials take out their frustrations with Mark Cuban on the Mavs?

“I don’t think that there is any doubt that it still sticks with them. I think that it probably got a little worse when Mark made some positive comments about my book that recently came out in December and I think that it is very irritated to them that, basically, the cat is out of the bag and what he has been saying for years is basically have some evidence behind it and he has basically been right.”

Fact: the Mavericks are 1-16 in playoff games officiated by Crawford.

Inside Look At What NFL General Managers Really Ask

Wow, I always figured those NFL general managers asked some pretty crazy questions but asking if you ever pee on a women or if you would ever share a piece of gum with Magic Johnson just took me by total surprise.

Jeff Ireland is not impressed though.

Make-A-Wish Kid Tries To Unsuspend Ben Roethlisberger

Timing Is Everything Zach

During the NFL Draft just before the Pittsburgh Steelers first-round selection was announced the crowd chanted, “She said no,” in reference to details from the police investigation of Ben Roethlisberger alleged sexual assault.

What made the chants especially notable was that Pittsburgh’s pick was to be announced by Zach Hatfield, a 15-year-old who suffers from acute promyelocytic leukemia and who endured a heart attack last summer. The crowd’s jeers turned to cheers right when NFL commissioner Roger “Godfather” Goodell handed the microphone over to Hatfield.

While backstage with Goodell, the teenager asked the commissioner if “maybe you could unsuspend Ben Roethlisberger?” Goodell declined to accomodate Hatfield’s request.

“And I mentioned to the commissioner, I asked him, ‘So, do you think maybe you could unsuspend Ben Roethlisberger?’ The commissioner just kind of smiled and said, ‘I don’t think we can do that.’ “

Roethlisberger is currently suspended for six games and is forced to undergo a “comprehensive behavior.” More importantly let the Steeler fans down especially a sick teenager named Zach, who was willing to trade his Make-A-Wish in.

Ben Roethlisberger Not An Eminem Fan (NSFW)

“…I’d rather turn this club into a bar room brawl. Get as rowdy as Roethlisberger in a bathroom stall”

Well at least Roethlisberger probably isn’t his biggest fan right now. Killer line though, just might even start using it in everyday life.

The Most Expensive Trophy In The World

Just 43 Days Away

With the World Cup just 43 days away the final preparations are being made to enable the event to be the showcase for soccer the way it’s supposed to be. With that the FIFA World Cup Trophy is making it’s way around the world with fun facts before alighting in South Africa.

One of the fun facts to be reveled is that the World Cup trophy is a solid 11 pounds of 18k gold, which makes it worth $20 million.

Of course, the winning nation doesn’t get to keep the trophy permanently, but the winning nation instead receives a replica of the trophy that is merely gold-plated rather than solid.

Because of its value the trophy travels with an entourage that dwarfs Ben Roethlisberger and Pacman Jones combined with of 20 security guards.

Quiznos Toasty Topic: Prostitute Question Asked By Miami Dolphins GM

Prostitute Question Asked By Miami Dolphins GM

Every Wednesday Sports Grind Entertainment presents you with the Quiznos Toasty Topic. Today the toasty topic to be discussed is the revelation that it was the Miami Dolphins general manager who poised the question to Dallas Cowboys  first-round draft pick Dez Bryant whether his mother was a prostitute.

He was asked by a high-level executive of one NFL franchise  during an extensive conversation about Bryant’s past  whether his mother, Angela, was a prostitute. Yahoo! Sports who first reported the story later revealed that it was Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland who asked the question of Bryant.

David Wells Braynt’s adviser and you might remember from our August 7 post on being Michael Crabtree’s adviser, said that that the Cowboys wide receiver was asked about his mother during a visit to the Dolphins in March, prior to the NFL draft.

“No, my mom is not a prostitute,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports. “I got mad — really mad — but I didn’t show it. I got a lot of questions like that: Does she still do drugs? I sat and answered all of them.”

The background of Bryant and his mother was widely reported prior to the draft. Angela was only 15 when Dez was born, and she served time in jail for selling crack cocaine and that where Ireland took it upon himself to ask the question.

“My job is to find out as much information as possible about a player that I’m considering drafting. Sometimes that leads to asking in-depth questions,” Ireland said Tuesday in a statement released by the Dolphins. “Having said that, I talked to Dez Bryant and told him I used poor judgment in one of the questions I asked him. I certainly meant no disrespect and apologized to him.”

Could you keep your cool in that situation?

Portland Trail Blazers Andre Miller’s Off-Season Regime Is Non Existent

That Way To Wendy's?

The Portland Trail Blazers season could be over in a matter how days and hows does their star point guard Andre Miller plan on preparing for next season?

The same way I plan on doing, nothing. Miller spoke of his off-season work outs being that of absoultey nothing at all.

“I have no regimen. I don’t touch any weights, no cardio, nothing. I  don’t even pick up a basketball.”

Then Miller must change those eating habits and that how he is different from myself right?

“(My diet) isn’t healthy at all,” Miller says. “Hamburgers, hot links on the Fourth of July, all that.”

So what your saying is I have a chance then.

Vice President Slams Rich Rodriguez At Miners Memorial

Vice President Joe Biden was among the attendees at the memorial for the 29 miners who were killed in a West Virginia explosion earlier this month. The vice president managed to work in a Rich Rodriguez blast, who left West Virginia University for Michigan after the 2007 season, saying

“They loved hunting, fishing, riding horses and four-wheelers. They hated the way Coach Rodriguez left West Virginia for Michigan.”

Looking for a rim shot at a memorial, real smooth.

Mike Bacsik Fired For Racially Insensitive Tweet

Hidden Racist?

For those that don’t know who Mike Bacsik is, he’s a former Major League Baseball pitcher and the son of Michael James Bacsik, who was also a pitcher in the majors. He’s most famous though for giving up Barry Bonds 756th career home run, which broke the all-time record formerly held by Hank Aaron.

Bacsik was fired just minutes ago from his producer role on The Ticket 1310 in Dallas after he allowed his racism to spill out onto Twitter after the Dallas Mavericks loss to the San Antonio Spurs in game 4 on Sunday night, with his above tweet. Shortly thereafter he deleted his comment, hoping it would forever cease to exist and followed it up with a back handed apology.

Bacsik, who originally was suspended indefinitely by the station, said that when the tweet went on national television, including CNN, the station decided to let him go.

“It’s been a rough couple of days. Obviously, I made a terrible mistake. It was very bad and stupid on my part. The last few days, I’ve been getting positive e-mails. But the station changed their mind and decided to go in a different direction.”

“When you tweet like I did, you can’t see the sarcasm,” he said. “It’s not a good joke. You can’t tell if it was pure hate or sarcasm. I never got to say anything. My tweets were talking for me. When you tweet like that, it’s not a playful, harmless thing. It’s not what it was meant to be.”

“If you want to do a job like this, your guard always has to be up,” he said. “It’s tough because my guard was down. I learned my lesson. I’m owning up to what I did. I did a horrible thing. I’m very sorry and will try my best for my actions to speak louder than my tweets.”

I wonder if Bacsik feelings have changed or does this further fuel an anger inside him since it was just a basketball game that caused his racism to go viral, not something as major as losing his job. Does the hidden racism grow or does Bacsik really looked to change his beliefs?

Detroit Lions Linebacker Buy Opponents Tampons & Band Aids

Zack Follett is a linebacker for the Detroit Lions who you might recall is the same guy that stepped into a Lions cage back on March 9. Follett is back but this time he’s walking the feminine aisle in Walgreens stock piling his NFL opponents with tampons and barbie band aids.

That sure is a lot of talking coming from a linebacker who has 10 career tackles and was part of a team that managed to win only 2 games. I’m just saying Follett.
