Are You Surprised Anymore??
The list has reawakened today on Commissioner Bud Selig’s birthday .”The list” is the names of 104 players who tested positive for steroids in 2003 has again been compromised, this time with Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz outed as users. Back in 2003, Baseball first tested for steroids and the results from that season were supposed to remain anonymous but some results have been leaked. As part of the drug agreement between the union and MLB, the results of the testing of 1,198 players also were meant to be anonymous but that has not been the case.
According to the New York Times:
The information about Ramirez and Ortiz emerged through interviews with multiple lawyers and others connected to the pending litigation. The lawyers spoke anonymously because the testing information is under seal by a court order. The lawyers did not identify which drugs were detected.
But this means more star players have been outed as cheats. Ramirez, now with the Dodgers, has already been tainted, of course, with this year’s 50-game suspension for a violation of Major League Baseball’s drug policy (he took a banned substance that masks performance-enhancing drugs). But Ortiz is another story.
Immensely popular in Boston for his clutch homers and large personality, Ortiz once said that those caught using PEDs should be suspended for a year under the current testing policy.
Ortiz said that he believes players are clean because testing is quite invasive, and if they test positive now, they should be thrown out of the game for the rest of the year. He said that players and whole teams should be tested “three or four times a year, that’s it” which he thinks would give a good reading on who is or who isn’t on steroids.
“I think you clean up the game by the testing. I test you, you test positive, you’re going to be out. Period,” Ortiz said. “If I test positive using any kind of banned substance I’m going to disrespect the game, my family, my fans and everybody. And I don’t want to face the situation so I won’t use it. I’m sure everybody is on the same page.”
As of now Ortiz, Ramirez, and Scott Boras are declining comment.
To those that want the rest of the 100 name “list” to be released, its not likely to happen. The power of the players union and the job of agents to protect the players will work to keep the rest of “the list” sealed but will actually hurt the game more in the long run than do it any good. They will have done their job with there clients best interest in mind, that is until his name is revealed.
Surprised? No. Disappointed? Yes.
Chris Cooley Responds To Jason Witten Video
Chris Cooley responded with
Alright seriously, I usually never respond to the comments and for good reason. I don’t want to give gratification to guys who call me the biggest douche they have ever met. Guys who comment to show their uncanny knowledge of football by telling me that Wit Dog is not only an unbelievably superior player (he is not – go watch game film), but a better teammate. I mean, unless you’re one of the three or four guys (Jason Fabini) who have been in both locker rooms, it would be amazing to have that information. Plus, while I will listen to criticism all day about what a terrible football player I am, (2 Pro Bowls are enough that I don’t even have to stand up for myself) I would consider myself a great teammate.
Let me wrap up with a couple thoughts. If you’re a Cowboys fan don’t try to make a point by asking when the last time the Skins won the Super Bowl. Instead ask yourself when the last time Dallas won a playoff game. If you don’t like the content on our website, simply don’t read it. Calling me a douche and an idiot does not hurt my feelings and neither do fabricated stories. All you do when you comment garbage is offend normal fans and readers. And seriously, the videos are just for fun. I’m not trying to hurt anyone’s feeling or improve my on field image. If you watched the video then take it with a grain of salt, maybe even laugh. All I’m trying to do is provide people with a couple minutes of entertainment. Believe it or not, Wit Dog and I are actually friends.
Chris Cooley Clowns On Jason Witten VIDEO
“Braylon Edwards catches balls behind his back, aint nothin to J-Witt..DAWG”
The Dallas Cowboys kick off training camp here in San Antonio today and what better way to start camp than with a video from Washington Redskins Chris Cooley. Now is that backup quarterback Colt Brennan impersonating Romo?
Stephon Marbury Crying VIDEO
Starting on Friday and throughout the weekend Stephon Marbury took to the Internet to give the world a glimpse into is his lifestyle, his world, his mind. It was entertaining, pure gold. Then he decided to play Kirk Franklin’s “Lean On Me” and suddenly the tears started to fall. Its a powerful song and I’m not going to take shots at the man because I have no idea what memories are attached to it.
The T.O. Show:Episode 2 Recap
“Big things are gonna happen in Buffalo, I can feel it. There’s a lot riding on this.” Owens said
Its apparent that T.O. is a workout machine and for the second straight week we are given a glimpse into his workout routine but this time accompanied by an 80′s montage. Buffalo is head over heels to have T.O. part of their team hoping to help shine a little light on the ‘Rust Belt’ city. From the moment he stepped off the plane to standing in front city hall and receiving a key to the city without recording a single reception in a Bills jersey.
The highlight of the show was Owens impression of Ryan the waiter although a close second had to be when Owens looked like a
“Big red tampon” according to his publicist Kita.
ESPN & NFL Films To Make “Lombardi”
ESPN’s Films-Movies division has joined forces with Andell Entertainment and NFL Films to produce “Lombardi,” a drama about iconic Green Bay Packers head coach Vince Lombardi.
Perhaps the sports broadcaster’s biggest innovation so far is its idea to open the Friday of a down weekend between the conference championships and the Super Bowl in 2012, the 40th anniversary that the championship trophy was named after Lombardi.
Ron Semiao, ESPN Films-Movies senior veep, said the release strategy will allow ESPN and the NFL to use its collective marketing muscle to full advantage. He hopes the release slot becomes the playbook that ESPN and NFL will follow for future football films.
Said Semiao: “If you released an NFL-themed motion picture in that off-week before the Super Bowl, that would give you an entire month to promote it during the playoffs, and give an answer to all those people asking, `what am I doing to do until the Super Bowl starts?’ Our hope is to establish an annual franchise of an NFL-themed movie that comes out in theaters in that off week. What better way to kick that off than with a film about the iconic coach they named the Super Bowl trophy after?”
The film’s former focus will be the week leading up to the 1967 “Ice Bowl” championship game played between the Packers and Dallas Cowboys in 13 below zero weather. It broadens into a long rivalry with Cowboys head coach Tom Landry, whose cool demeanor was the exact opposite of Lombardi’s fire and brimstone.
They came up together as line coaches for the New York Giants, with Lombardi leaving after that team lost the famed 1958 championship game. Desperate to be a head coach, he took over a Packers team so hapless that other owners wanted the commissioner to fold the team. Lombardi and Landry lined their teams up on opposing sidelines for the Ice Bowl and Lombardi burnished his coaching legend by walking off that frozen field with a victory, winning Super Bowl I weeks later.
Tony Parker Turns Ankle
PARIS (AP) – San Antonio Spurs guard Tony Parker has a sprained ankle and injured thigh after colliding with an Austrian player during a recent basketball game.
Parker is unlikely to be available to play for France in Thursday’s game in Paris against Hungary in Eurobasketball 2009, according to sports daily L’Equipe.
The Spurs’ star hurt his right thigh and ankle in a collision with Stjepan Stazic in a game Friday. Parker issued a statement saying he was hit in his thigh and turned his ankle.
The statement also said tests on Saturday showed no sign of ligament tears or other serious complications, and that he could resume training later in the week.
Rickey Henderson Hall Of Famer, Jim Rice Not So Much
Today baseball celebrates the induction of Rickey Henderson and Jim Rice into the Hall Of Fame. Its hard for me to ever rain down on a day of celebration in baseball but this is one of those time I must stay true to who I am and my beliefs. I believe today should only belong to Rickey Henderson. The man who stole a major-league leading 1406 bases, crossed the plate more than any other player with 2295, led off games with more home runs than anybody else with 81, was second in all-time walks with 2190, and still collected 3055 hits and was the 1990 MVP of baseball. Cocky, yes. Confident, yes. Hall Of Famer, yes.
Unfortunately his spotlight is being shared with a good ball player but Jim Rice is not a Hall Of Famer. The eight time All-Star was good and even had a year in which everything fell into place and was named the MVP of the 1978 season. Outside of that ’78 season and playing in a market of bias Boston reporting, does his stats really call forth to be enshrined among baseballs immortals? No. Rice may have been a tough out, he might have been a heck of a left fielder, he might even have been the pop before there was pop. These factors should not merit enshrinement though. If Rice had played in San Diego or Kansas City and put up career numbers of 2452 hits (101 all time, just behind Bill Dahlen), 382 home runs (58th all time tied with Frank Howard), 1451 RBIs (56th all time, just behind Rausty Staub) most would be calling this selection ludicrous. Over the years though Boston media and Boston Red Sox players like Carl Yastrzemski and Carlton Fisk cried and shouted for Rice like this was a high school election for student council president. Voters should be ashamed and deep down they know this. Rice was only elected on his 15th year and last on the ballot, just nudging the 75% required with a 76.4%.
As Rickey would say to Rickey “Don’t worry, Rickey, you’re still the best.” Today you are the greatest of all-time.
UPDATE: Lamar Odom Saga Is Not Over
Early last week, I published reports from BlackSportsOnline claiming Lamar Odom had agreed in principal to resign with the Los Angles Lakers. As we all know nothing of real such value has taken place. I wanted to take the moment to clear the air that Calvin Casey and Rudy J, my two partners, never had any such involvement on this report. The decision to run this report was all on me. I stand here to take full blame even as the report slowly burns in front of my face.
Odom may end up signing with another NBA team or stay with the Lakers however I will not act as if I did not run with this report, standing by my word means more than trying to save face. I can admit when I am wrong and if such happens, I will.

VIDEOS Of Mr. Perfect’s Game From The Fans Perspective
When you witness history in person or on television in a sport that is over 140 years old, you can never do the event enough justice. This week Mark Buerhle threw Major League Baseballs 18th perfect game and I witnessed the action from the 5th inning and on from the confines of my home but what about the fans that where there in attendance? Here are a few videos from their point of view
And from the outfield
Holliday Season For Cardinal Fans
Matt Holliday arrived in Philadelphia and was in lineup for the St. Louis Cardinals, on the same day he was traded. He didn’t necessarily bring the power as he was expected to but did finish 4-for-5 with a stolen base, an RBI and a run scored. The Cardinals beat the Phillies, 8-1, in front of 45,166 at Citizens Bank Park.
“Yeah, I was lucky, but I’ll take ‘em. I’ll take ‘em all,” Holliday said. “It may not be pretty, but it’s effective.”
Holliday singled in his first at-bat, promptly stole second and scored on Rick Ankiel’s base hit. In the Cardinals’ four-run sixth, Holliday hit an opposite-field, run-scoring flair. In the seventh, he launched a double to right-center that nearly left the yard, and in the ninth he legged out an infield single.
To Cardinals fans this means Albert Pujols finally has legit protection, who has a Majors-leading 34 intentional walks.
“It changes the complexion of our lineup,” Mark DeRosa said. “Guys feel they can pass the baton. They don’t need to be a hero.”
That’s exactly what they did on Friday: Pass the baton, without heroics. St. Louis’ deeper, longer lineup managed a big inning without big hits, stringing together five consecutive singles off young Philadelphia lefty J.A. Happ, who had not lost since 2007.
“Now I would say it’s up to our pitching,” Joe Pineiro said. “The front office did what they needed to do to get hitters, now our pitching’s gotta step up and keep on doing what we’ve been doing.”
Holliday did not even have time to check into his hotel. He had a team meeting and press conference to attend. Shortly thereafter, he was on standing on second base, stealing his first bag with his new team.
“That’s part of my game,” said Holliday, who had 28 steals for Colorado last season. “I kind of pride myself on playing good baseball.”
That’s the quickest way to a Cardinal fans heart.
Cheapskate Cuban
The Dallas Morning News acquired transcripts from a two-day arbitration hearing between Mark Cuban and Don Nelson that took place in June of 2008. Cuban withheld a substantial sum of wages owed to his former coach and GM on the accusation that Nelson used “insiders info” about the Mavericks he collected during his one-year as an adviser to beat the Mavericks in the 2007 playoff series as coach of the Golden State Warriors.
Two years ago Cuban sued Nelson on those accusations. The pair went to arbitration last year. Nelson won. Cuban still hasn’t paid the $6 million.
You can read all 800 pages of the transcripts (condensed into a 200-page PDF) here, credit to the Dallas Morning News. In the transcript, you’ll find:
*An attorney quotes Nelson from a deposition saying he didn’t want to sign an amendment to his contract in 2003, but his friends got him drunk and told him he should.
*Nelson talks about when he was upset that Cuban sat in on one of his pre-game
coach’s meetings.
*Nelson calls Erick Dampier “a very doggy player” and “totally overpaid.”
*A Mavericks attorney points out that Nelson has been paid a total of more than $50 million for coaching the Mavericks and Warriors. “That’s correct, God bless the NBA,” Nelson responded
*Nelson admits he discussed the NBA draft with the Warriors in June of 2006 while he was still a consultant for the Mavericks. “Is that confidential information? I probably broke a rule,” Nelson said
*Asked if Nelson had been grooming Avery Johnson to become head coach, Cuban answers, “No, sir.”
*Cuban says Nelson wasn’t showing up for practices and Johnson was coming to him regularly saying, “I am ready, boss. Put me in.”
*Cuban calls Dennis Rodman’s tenure with the Mavericks a “failed experiment.”
*Cuban calls the 2003-04 season, Steve Nash’s last with the Mavericks,“probably the worst of my tenure.” He says Antoine Walker “just was a cancer.”
*Nelson answered his door and was dressed in khakis, no shirt, no shoes, with a scotch in his hand, and he was very celebratory,”
The classic of it all had to be when Cuban described there hugging,
*Cuban is asked if he and Nelson hugged each other at the press conference announcing that Nelson would step down as coach and become a consultant. “I hugged him,” Cuban answered. “He didn’t hug me back. I know a Nellie hug, and that was not a Nellie hug.”
NFL Draft Expands To PRIMETIME
The NFL Draft will expand to a three-day extravaganza, with the first three rounds taking place in prime time. USA Today reports that the 2010 NFL Draft will begin on Thursday, April 22 at 6:30 PM CST. Thursday night coverage will include the first round only. Coverage of the second and third rounds will take place on Friday, April 23 at 5:30 PM CST. The draft will conclude on Saturday, April 24, with coverage beginning at 9:00 AM.
This marks the third straight year that the NFL Draft has undergone a scheduling change. In 2008, the start of the Draft was pushed back from 11:00 AM CST to 2:00 PM CST. In 2009, the start was pushed back once again, this time from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM. The move will result in some scheduling changes for another major event taking place at the same time. The NBA Playoffs will more than likely be underway by April 22, and ESPN typically airs playoff games on Friday nights. Any NBA Playoff games on Friday, April 23, would likely air either on ESPN2 or fellow NBA television partner TNT. The NFL will avoid a potential showdown with the Kentucky Derby. Coverage of the first day of the 2009 NFL Draft averaged 5.1 million viewers on ESPN last April.
Commissioner Roger “Godfather” Goodell notified teams Thursday that the draft will be spread over three days in 2010, running Thursday, April 22, through Saturday, April 24.
“We continue to look for ways to make the draft more accessible to more fans,” Goodell said in a statement. “Moving the first round to prime time on Thursday night will make the first round of the draft available to fans on what is typically the most-watched night of television.”
Mark Buerhle Throws A Perfect Game
Mark Buerhle who is not a stranger to some of baseball’s greatest personal achievements having already pitched a no-hitter on April 18th 2007, has now pitched a pitchers dream, a perfect game today versus the Tampa Bay Rays. Only the 18th Perfect Game in the history of all Major League League baseball. The credit and fame with be shined upon Mark Buerhle today but a catch in the top of the ninth by center fielder Dewayne Wise under the circumstances, was one of the best I have personally seen.
Twenty-seven up, 27 down. Mark Buehrle mowed through the Rays for the first perfect game since Randy Johnson in 2004, striking out 6 along the way.
Chicago White Sox’s Ken ‘Hawk’ Harrelson said it the best:
YES! YES! YES! YES! YES! HISTORY!
Even White Sox fan President Obama has got to be smiling right about now.
Theo Ratliff Your Newest San Antonio Spur
The San Antonio Spurs have reached an agreement with 36 year old perennial shot-blocker Theo Ratliff. He has led the league three times in blocks per game and is fifth among active players in total blocks. The San Antonio Spurs have agreed to a one-year deal for the veterans’ minimum
Ratliff, played 46 games for Philadelphia a season ago. He’s averaged 7.5 points and 2.5 blocks a game for his career.
Look Who Came To The Ben Party
Late last night ESPN finally threw their hat into the ring on the report of Ben Roesthlisberger. Although it was brief and centered more around how there’s no intention of criminal charges to filed, at least now ESPN is not acting like Lake Tahoe and Andrea McNulty never happened. But what happened to ‘company policy’ that ESPN does not report on athletes and on going civil suits? Or was the public imaging things when ESPN issued the statement
“At this point, we are not reporting the allegations against Ben Roethlisberger because no criminal complaint has been filed. As far as we know, this is a civil lawsuit that Roethlisberger has yet to address publicly, ESPN considers it a private matter and not news.”
Here’s ESPN first acknowledgment of the situation which came at 11:27 P.M.

The Lamar Saga Is Over
The Los Angeles Lakers and Lamar Odom have reportedly have agreed on a deal. According to our friends at BlackSportsOnline
Sources close to Lamar Odom have told BSO that Odom will resign with the Lakers. Odom will sign a 4 year 40 million dollar contract to stay with the champs. The change of heart came after Lamar reached out to Dr. Jerry Buss. The two of them spoke yesterday where they were able to reach an agreement.
With this signing your looking at a repeat of your Western Conference champions.
***UPDATE***
The Los Angeles Times is reporting on the resumed talks
http://www.latimes.com/sports/la-sp-lakers-lamar-odom23-2009jul23,0,5117681.story
ESPN Is Ignoring The Ben Roethlisberger Story
ESPN lets a lot of athletes through their “carwash” of interviews on a regular basis, and there’s obviously some that they have cushy relationships with. However, it’s honestly rare that they choose to ignore certain items, about said athletes, entirely. The “Leader” is completely ignoring the fact that Ben Roethlisberger is being sued by woman in Nevada. Obviously saying that a pro athlete “sexually assaulted” you, has become taboo at this point, but there should absolutely be a mention of it somewhere.
ESPN’s silence on the Ben Roethlisberger lawsuit is no accident. Pro Football Talk reports that ESPN ” issued a ‘DO NOT REPORT’ memo to all of its outlets and reporters” late last night, with no explanation. A source told Pro Football Talk that “some of the reporters are wondering why, but haven’t been told.”
Last year, ESPN issued a similar memo in regards to allegations that former-Packer Brett Farve gave secrets to the Lions prior to their Week 2 game against the Packers. Their rationale at the time was that the story was not true.
In this case, as Pro Football Talk noted, “ESPN can’t claim that the report of a civil suit alleging sexual assault isn’t true.”
A source tells Deadspin that “it’s a previously established company policy to not report on civil cases involving athletes.” That did not stop ESPN from covering Randy Moss alleged battery against a woman in January ’08. There were no criminal charges; Moss was slapped with a restraining order against the woman. ESPN also reported on a lawsuit against Marvin Harrison in a case that has not resulted in criminal charges.
ESPN even reported on the intention of a woman to sue Laker guard Shannon Brown over an alleged sex-related incident earlier this year.
A woman accuses a professional athlete on a championship team of sexual misconduct and plans to sue. The athlete denies the allegations. ESPN reports the allegations.
But this is not Ben Roethlisberger. It’s Shannon Brown, reserve guard for the defending NBA champion Los Angeles Lakers. When Brown was notified that he would be sued for an alleged sex-related incident in June, ESPN.com was there with the story. And this was not a mere recycling of an Associated Press piece. This was a detailed piece on a story that was “confirmed to ESPN’s Shelley Smith on June 3, 2009.” Brown is far from an NBA star, and certainly lacks the national recognition of two-time Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger, who was named in a civil suit over an alleged sexual assault. But while ESPN had no problem reporting on the Brown suit little over a month ago, the Roethlisberger allegations have not been discussed on any ESPN outlet.
In addition, the network’s silence on the story while others report is a hole to big to ignore and the fact that ESPN jumped all over the Pacman Jones story while refusing to mention Ben Roethlisberger now gives the African American community fodder that the Alleged Worldwide Leader caters to white athletes.
The criticisms may not be true, but as long as ESPN executives continue to hide under their desks on the Roethlisberger story while other outlets continue their investigations, the arrows will continue to be fired at the sports behemoth.
The T.O. Show:Episode 1 Recap
The Plan Was Working On The Man seemed to be the overall theme of the 1st episode after Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones decided it was best to illustrate on a table cloth from a restaurant they needed to part ways. According to his publicist Monique
It looked he’d been crying over the last 24 hours. His eyes where red. It was ugly….trust me said Monique
Some might say it only got worse as the Buffalo Bills swooped in with a one year offer for him to play in Buffalo. His name freshly signed, Terrell moves to Los Angeles to explore post football career options before he can, its time for a little shopping. That’s when the gem of show takes place in a store off Rodeo Dr. while looking to buy some earrings
How much are these, Owens asks the store clerk. $137,000. Let me wear them out says Owens.
VH1 is a perfect marriage at this junction of Owens career, and it allows him to shed some of the bad guy image and have two nagging women take the heat.
4TH AND LONG Finale
When first hearing that SpikeTV would be broadcasting an eleven episode reality television series hosted by Michael Irvin, I knew all of sudden I would be paying watching to a channel that is not in normal rotation as I’m just naturally entertained by the man. Then came the news the winner would earn a spot at training camp on my favorite NFL team the Dallas Cowboys made for “Must See TV”. The show pitted six wide receivers against six defensive backs that have varying backgrounds, including national champions, CFL players, arena league veterans, semi-pro players, but have failed to make an NFL rosters.
Some viewed the show as a joke before even an episode aired. The least that was happening was earning a spot on the 80 man training camp roster with no guarantees of a making the final 53 man roster or hours of used tape for SpikeTV. Personally I watched the show for what it was, entertainment, the only objection was being a Time Warner Customer and SpikeTV is not offered in High-definition.
Early on, there was no picking out a particular player to root for or call my shot on who would be the last man standing and allowed some of the weaker contestants be removed for me. After watching episode after episode it was not till about 7 contestants remained that I started to be drawn in to Ahmaad Smith a 25 year old 6’0 defensive back out of Tennessee State. Recognizing that the contestants where under unique circumstances of sheer desire and no backing of player representatives or a union like their counterparts in the NFL, 4th And Long aired its best episode Great Sacrifices, Great Reward. The players where put through a grueling series of drills for 5 hours, including running the stadium stairs, until at least one of them broke mentally and decided to quit and turn in his jersey, none of them choose to do so.
In the tonight’s finale 25 year old 6’3 wide receiver Jesse Holley from the University of North Carolina stole the show with 7 receptions for 131 yards and 2 touchdown and gained some of the highest praise from former Cowboys special teams coach Joe Avezzano when Avezzano said
Holley is a flat-out solid receiver and can be better than some of the backups the Cowboys have right now.
Holley in turn was anointed the winner of 4th And Long with the prize of being the 80th man in Cowboys camp here in San Antonio July 28. He will now have to prove himself all over again to a whole new set of coaches as he will be the 11th wide receiver in San Antonio.
40 Years Ago Today
On this day40 years ago mankind made a “Giant Leap” and man has since taken several steps since but yet to match anything of that magnitude. We reflect back on that glorious day but the year of ’69 had its share of moments in the sports world, a year of impossibles.
The NBA witnessed the last of Boston Celtics 10 championships in 11 years and the final game of player/coach Bill Russell’s. The NBA Finals pitted a highly favored Los AngelesLakers against the Russell lead Celtics but losing in seven games on its home court. It marked the first time ever in NBA Finals history that a Game 7 was won by the road team.To this day this series remains only time in NBA Finals history that the MVP, Jerry West, was awarded to a player on the losing team.
Some could say it was a giant leap for the New York “Miracle” Mets as they became the first expansion team to win a division title, a pennant, and the World Series after beating the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles (4 games to 1), in their eighth year of existence after beating the heavily favored Baltimore Orioles.
This was the first year to officially bear the title Super Bowl and is regarded as one of the greatest upsets in sports history. The underdog American Football League champion New York Jets defeated the National Football League champion Baltimore Colts by a score of 16–7. It was the first Super Bowl victory for the AFL. The AFL was not generally respected as having the same caliber of talent as the NFL. Jets quarterback Joe Namath boldly guaranteed a victory prior to the game, and was named the Super Bowl’s Most Valuable Player
When the sports world in 1969 took the main stage, it became a year of the greatest upsets in sports history.
Braves Retire Maddux’s # 31
Over the course of 23 Major League seasons, Greg Maddux has always been one to deflect attention and acclaim to teammates and managers but on Friday he found himself once again being immortalized for his legendary career as he was inducted into the Braves Hall of Fame. Surely one day he’ll be once again on stage to do it all over again but this time it being the stage of Cooperstown. With a career that notched 355 career wins, four Cy Young Awards and a record 18 Gold Glove Awards.
There will come a day when Tom Glavine, John Smoltz, Chipper Jones and Bobby Cox are all immortalized by the Braves. But the first act of immortalizing one of the key figures that helped the Braves gain unmatched success throughout the 1990s and the early portion of the 21st century came via Friday’s celebration of Maddux, who holds the franchise career records for ERA (2.63) and winning percentage (.866). During his first three years with the Braves, Maddux completed his run of winning four consecutive Cy Young Awards and in the process, he went 55-18 with a 1.90 ERA. The Braves retiring of Madduxs No. 31. shares the honor with Hank Aaron, Dale Murphy, Warren Spahn, Eddie Mathews and Phil Niekro.
“Was he the best pitcher I ever saw? Was he the smartest pitcher I ever saw? Was he the best competitor I ever saw? Was he the best teammate I ever saw?”"The answer is yes to all of the above,” Cox said.
With the eighth-most wins in baseball history, Maddux has the credentials that prove he’s one of the best who have ever had the opportunity to stand on a Major League mound.
PacMan Scrip Club Video Surfaces
A video of February 19, 2007, at the Minxx Gentlemen’s Club & Lounge has surfaced and shows Pacman Jones with his Louis Vuitton bag giving back to the needy. Although the video doesn’t show it, a fight took place inside the club and a shooting took place outside the club, leaving a bouncer paralyzed. What the video does show dolla bills failing from the sky and about 50 strippers completely covering the dance floor, filling buckets with the discarded singles. At one point, the music stops and producer Jermaine Dupri (yes that Jermaine Dupri) gets on the on the DJ’s microphone and said:
“We gonna show y’all how to make it rain.”"Don’t start getting the money until I tell y’all to get off the stage,” “… Just keep fucking dancing! Don’t bend down and try to get your money.”
Its ten months after the incident, Jones pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit disorderly conduct for his role in the fight.
The video in its entirety can be seen at this link, viewer discretion is advised.
Un Spur Like Start For Richard Jefferson
Newly-acquired San Antonio Spur Richard Jefferson apparently is looking for a FRESH start here in San Antonio. Over the weekend the San Antonio Spur left his fianceé Kesha NiCole Nichols at the altar, at the last minute.
The New York Post is reporting that Jefferson got cold feet late last week and seems to have ended the relationship. However, Jefferson waited so long to tell those close to him that some of the guests had already shown up in Manhattan on Saturday for the $2 million dollar wedding, completely unaware that it already been canceled.
“He called about two hours before the wedding. It was nuts,” said one Jefferson pal.
He never showed up at the hotel, but “all his boys were there,” the friend said. “He gave his best friend the Black Amex [credit card] for the night.”
Here are some pictures of Kesha Ni’Cole Nichols bride to be, who was left at the altar by San Antonio Spur Richard Jefferson.
Welcome to San Antonio Richard.
